Who owns a domain name?
The owner is the individual or entity that is listed as the "registrant" on the application for the domain name given to the registrar. The registrar is the entity authorized to issue domain names to the public.
Any person or entity named as a contact has the power to affect the domain name. Make sure the people who are named as administrative, billing and technical contacts are trusted individuals or companies that will not use their power to negatively affect the domain name.
Additionally, the person listed under billing should be someone trusted to renew the domain before the expiration date.
